    Lifesaving is a set of skills involving water based rescues, first aid and resuscitation. It involves essential water based and land based skills to keep everyone safe and the knowledge of what to do in an emergency.

    Water based lifesaving skills include: recognising different types of casualties (i.e. non-swimmer, week swimmer, injured, and unconscious), shout and signal rescues, reaching rescues, throwing rescues, wading rescues, swimming with an aid rescues, swim and tow rescues, entries and exits from the water, resuscitation in water, lifting unconscious casualties from the water, rope throwing, incident training, using a spinal board, speed swimming, endurance swimming,

    Dryside lifesaving skills include: learning about different water environments and their dangers, water safety, resuscitation, CPR (on babies, children and adults), 2 person CPR,  incident training, bandaging, how to deal with shock, choking, bleeding, hypothermia, drowning, first aid,  how to make use of bystander, how to make an emergency call,

    Lifesaving can keep people safe and save lives but it is also the only sport that is humanitarian physical based activity therefore helping to keep people healthy.

    Lifesaving is a worldwide sport where lifesavers compete across a variety of skills, speed and team work. Lifesaving activities based at or near a coastal or sea environment are called surf lifesaving or coastal lifesaving.
